This course covers all the background information and principles needed to complete a recoding project using Pro Tools. The course is delivered using Pro Tools 9, Waves and Oxford interfaced with an Icon D Control.
Applicants need to be able to demonstrate a knowledge of working with music and computer packages.
Technical sessions will include workshops in the following software and hardware:
- Introduction to pro tools
- Studio use and signal path
- Signal processing using Waves and Oxford
- Using Midi and software instruments
- Microphone types (AKG, Sennheiser and Neumann ) and placement
- Control surface use including recording and mixing. Using ICON D Control
The sessions will also give a basic overview of other control surface interfaces such as:
- M Box,
- Control 24,
- C24
- SSL.
A Professional Practice component will introduce practitioners currently working in the industry from Broadcast and Music producers and engineers.
A practiced based project will be supported through tutorial and seminar sessions where participants will have the opportunity to gain and develop production techniques appropriate to their projects.
By the end of the course you will be able to...........
- Use Pro Tools in order to carry out a recording project from preparing a session to mixing.
- Have a working knowledge and understanding of microphone types and placement techniques
- Use Industry standard Waves and Oxford processing software third party to Pro Tools for processing audio
- Use Midi and software instruments for the production of music
- Gain experience of working with high end control surfaces and industry standard recording interfaces
- Gain knowledge of working in a professional recording studio

Studio Engineer and Technician teaching on the Creative Sound and Music BA and Creative Music Practice MA/MFA programmes. Jamie has extensive experience of working in both studio and live environments using Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton and MAX MSP
Tutor - Andre Ktori
Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader of Creative Music Practice and Creative Music Business MA/MFA. Andre is a BAFTA, Milia D’Or and Millennium award winner with over 30 years of experience working in the music industry managing studios, outside broadcast unit with more recent experience in digital audio / media development and Interactive music software development.

Recently Mark has been involved in setting up a new studio as a producers co-operative in North West London called Unity Studios. One of their main aims is to train young people in the real art of recording musicians and bands, a language he feels is fast being lost.
